PEST-SHIELD offers expert wasp nest removal services across the North East of England, including Newcastle, Sunderland, and Durham.

Is It Really a Wasp Nest?

It’s easy to mistake bees for wasps, especially Mason Bees, Mining Bees, Honey Bees, or Bumblebees. While both have similar colouring and can deliver painful stings, their nesting habits, behaviours, and diets differ significantly. If you’re unsure, feel free to contact us for advice.

Why is Wasp Nest Removal Important?

Active wasp nests can be a nuisance, especially during the warmer months. Wasps are usually active from May to October but can remain a problem as late as December in some cases. When you see wasps flying in and out of a hole or cavity, this is a sign of an active nest.

For nests located inside walls, roofs, or other hidden spaces, it’s essential to treat the nest before any removal attempts are made. Removing a nest while it’s active may cause the wasps to become aggressive and attempt to rebuild elsewhere.

Most wasp nests die off naturally, but the longer they survive, the greater the risk of them producing new queen wasps for the following year. If a nest is visible, such as in a loft, we recommend waiting a few weeks after treatment before attempting removal to ensure the wasps are no longer active.

When Should You Call a Professional?

The lifespan of a wasp nest is influenced by the weather. Windy, wet conditions can limit the activity of queen wasps, but warm temperatures extend their life cycle. Though wasp issues peak in summer, you may still encounter problems during autumn and early winter. In colder months, wasps become sluggish, crawling into homes where they are more likely to sting.

By autumn, a treated wasp nest may take up to ten days to die off, whereas in summer, the process can be completed within hours.
