Foxes

  1. Remove Food Sources:
    • Stop feeding wild birds, as this attracts foxes.
    • Don’t leave food scraps on compost heaps.
    • Ensure that rubbish bins are securely closed.
    • Store pet and animal food in fox-proof containers.

Aftercare Following Fox Treatment

To prevent foxes from returning to your garden, follow these aftercare tips:

  • Avoid Feeding Wildlife: Feeding birds or leaving food out for other animals can unintentionally attract foxes.
  • Secure Waste: Make sure all food waste is securely contained in bins with tight-fitting lids.
  • Pet Food Storage: Keep pet food and animal feed in secure, fox-proof containers to reduce the chance of attracting foxes.

How Our Fox Control Treatment Works

At PEST-SHIELD, we offer several effective options for fox control, tailored to your specific situation.

  1. Repellent: Fox repellents are most effective when there is another area for the fox to move to. However, in areas with high fox population pressure, this may not be successful as foxes tend to stay in familiar territory.
  2. Trapping: Live catch cage traps are the most reliable solution. Our technician will set up the trap, and you are legally required to check it daily. Once a fox is caught, contact our office, and a technician will return to remove it. If multiple foxes are present, the trap can remain in place for further captures, with additional charges for each visit.Note: You may be required to unset and reset the trap over weekends if necessary.

Facts About Foxes

  • Habitat: Foxes are part of the dog family and live in both rural and urban environments. They make their homes in burrows called “earths” and are opportunistic feeders.
  • Diet: Foxes eat a variety of foods, including berries, small mammals, insects, worms, and carrion. In urban areas, they often scavenge from rubbish bins and compost heaps.
  • Lifespan: The average lifespan of a fox in the wild is around 2 years.
  • Mating Season: Foxes mate in January and February, which is when their barking and screaming can become a nuisance. They typically give birth to a litter of five cubs in March, and the cubs stay with their mother for around 3-4 months before becoming independent.
