Pest Shield FAQs

Is your pest control safe for babies?

Your safety is our priority! Depending on the type of treatment, we may recommend you and your baby stay out of the treated area for a couple of hours. We’ll always provide clear guidance before any treatment takes place.

What happens during a visit from a Pest Shield expert?

Once you’ve booked your appointment, one of our experienced and certified pest control professionals will assess the situation and determine the best treatment. If needed, you’ll receive Risk and COSHH assessments and a written report detailing the service.

What equipment and products do you use?

We only use high-quality, professional-grade products approved by trusted UK suppliers. Safety and effectiveness are always our top priorities.

What pests do you deal with?

We handle a wide range of pests, including bed bugs, mice, rats, wasps, fleas, moths, cockroaches, ants, bees, silverfish, squirrels, flies, woodworm, pigeons, and more. Take a look at our Pest Control Services page for more information.

Do you provide services for homes and businesses?

Absolutely! We offer pest control solutions for both domestic and commercial properties.

How quickly can you respond to my pest problem?

We operate from 8 AM to 6 PM, and you can call us anytime for questions or bookings. We aim to respond the same day, and if we can’t book you in immediately, we’ll provide expert advice on managing the issue in the meantime.

What qualifications do your pest technicians have?

Our technicians are fully trained and certified, holding a minimum of  RSPH Level 2 in Pest Management.

What can I expect from a pest control treatment?

Your technician will inspect your property, assess the extent of the infestation, apply the most effective treatment, and provide expert advice to prevent future problems.

Do I need to leave my home during treatment?

This depends on the type of treatment. For spraying treatments, you may need to leave the area for a couple of hours. We’ll always give you clear instructions beforehand.

Do I need monthly treatments?

Not necessarily. Our treatments are designed to be effective, and we’ll advise you if follow-up visits are required.

How can I identify my pest problem?

If you’re unsure what pest is causing trouble, book a pest inspection with our specialists. We’ll identify the issue and recommend the best solution.

When should I call a professional pest control service?

Pests reproduce rapidly and often stay hidden. If you spot one, there’s a high chance of an infestation. DIY methods rarely eliminate the full problem, so it’s best to call us sooner rather than later!

Can I buy and use pesticides myself?

Many professional pesticides require a specialist licence, and improper use can be dangerous. Always consult a professional for safe and effective pest control.

Are all insects pests?

Not at all! Many insects play an essential role in the ecosystem. We only target those that pose a threat or nuisance to your property.

Can pests trigger asthma in children?

Yes! Pests like cockroaches and bed bugs can worsen asthma and allergies due to allergens in their droppings and shed skins. Eliminating infestations quickly is crucial for health and hygiene.

How do I prepare for a bed bug treatment?

  • Remove all bedding, pillowcases, and linens, bag them in the same room, and wash them at 60–90°C.

  • Wash any clothing stored under or near the bed.

  • Vacuum all areas, including both sides of the mattress.

  • We’ll provide full instructions before and after the treatment.

How can I prevent mice from entering my home?

Sealing all visible cracks and gaps helps, but full prevention isn’t always possible. Regular inspections and proofing can significantly reduce the risk of infestation.

I wake up with small bite marks—what could it be?

It could be bed bugs. Look for tiny dark spots on your sheets (their droppings). If you suspect an infestation, contact us immediately for expert treatment.

Do I need to clean cupboards after treatment?

No need! You can clean before the treatment if you wish, but avoid wiping treated areas afterward.

Why do some pests require multiple treatments?

Pests like bed bugs, fleas, and rodents have complex life cycles. Some treatments only work at certain stages, so follow-up visits are often necessary for complete eradication.

Do you offer same-day emergency service?

Yes! We provide same-day emergency treatments for urgent infestations. Call us on 0191 7166647 (8 AM–6 PM) or email us 24/7 to schedule an emergency visit.
